Overview
Learning to play a musical instrument is a challenging choice of extra-curricular activity requiring lesson participation, as well as practice, and family support. It is, however, one of the only activities that teaches skills that can be used and enjoyed for a lifetime, thus making it worth the additional effort! As a general rule, private lessons are ideal as the teacher’s focus and lesson planning is catered to just one student. This is a more serious approach to learning to play any instrument and works for any age. At VOICES, we have found young beginners thrive in a group setting (ex. Preschool Musical Theater, PianoToons, Lil’ Glee, etc.) Therefore, VOICES reserves private lessons for children ages 6 to adult depending on the type of lesson.

Parent Involvement Is Encouraged
Teachers agree that the long term success of your child in music depends on the parent involvement during the first THREE years. Though parents don’t need to sit with their child during every practice minute, they do need to arrange when practice will happen and ensure it does. If your child is struggling, the parent should be at the next lesson to work with the teacher to make an adjustment. Parents are key to their child’s success, your child will thank you but probably not until they are older.
Make Up Lessons
We are happy to offer 2 make up lessons at VOICES. Simply call us 24-hours in advance and we’ll happily reschedule your lesson.
Showcases
Private Lesson students have two showcases each school year to share what they have learned. Each showcase is an optional, low pressure event where your teacher will help your child prepare months in advance. Our showcase fee is $15 (charged automatically on Nov 1st and April 1st) and allows us to invite family and friends at NO CHARGE!
Motivation
We want our VOICES kids to always strive to be better. We help them achieve this with experienced, inspirational teachers as well as performance opportunities, our “Celebrity of the Week” program, and giving them a CD of all their best recordings at the end of the year.
Choose Your Music
At VOICES we typically use the last 10 minutes of private lessons on the music or script the student wants. Group teachers use popular songs as a motivator, too!
